Manchester United Submit Third Bid for Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have tabled a third offer for Brentford’s prolific forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the deal potentially reaching £70m, according to sources close to the negotiations. The bid comprises an initial £65m payment, supplemented by £5m in performance-related add-ons.

Brentford have yet to formally respond to the latest proposal, as Manchester United remain optimistic about securing the 25-year-old Cameroon international’s signature. The Red Devils are eager to integrate Mbeumo into manager Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of their pre-season tour of the United States, which begins Tuesday with a 13-day stint primarily based in Chicago.

Mbeumo, who netted an impressive 20 Premier League goals last season, has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Tottenham, now led by former Brentford manager Thomas Frank. Despite interest from elsewhere, sources indicate Mbeumo’s preference is a move to Old Trafford, making him a prime target for United as they aim to bolster their attacking options.

The pursuit of Mbeumo comes amid links to other high-profile players, such as Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. However, United’s priority has consistently been to finalize a deal for Mbeumo, allowing Amorim to work closely with the forward during pre-season preparations.

Brentford, meanwhile, face the prospect of losing another key attacker, with Newcastle expressing interest in striker Yoane Wissa. The potential departure of both players could significantly impact the Bees’ offensive output.

Amorim has frequently highlighted United’s struggles in front of goal last season, with the team’s 44 Premier League goals marking their lowest tally since the 1973-74 campaign, when they suffered relegation. The club has already moved to address this issue, securing forward Matheus Cunha and defender Diego Leon in the current transfer window.

Should Mbeumo’s transfer be completed, it could prompt a tactical shift, with captain Bruno Fernandes likely to drop into a deeper midfield role. Cunha is expected to occupy one of the two inside forward positions in Amorim’s preferred system, supporting a central striker. This development would further diminish the prospects of reintegrating four sidelined forwards—Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony—into the first-team setup.

Manchester United are set to kick off their Premier League campaign against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17, with hopes that Mbeumo will be part of the squad ready to make an immediate impact.
